We are so fortunate in London which is home to so many wonderful and quite historic hotels. The impeccable service and high standards have spanned generations. I remember my grandmother always took us to The Connaught for special occasions and we were frequently taken the The Ritz for tea where we had coffee ice cream with the most delicious wafers! These are steadfast memories which remind me of her. What lucky children we were too.
With changing times and as guests now have many more opportunities to travel the world with ease, these iconic establishments have to constantly change and move with the times. Keeping themselves up to date, fresh and interesting.
This morning I had the most fantastic breakfast at The Berkeley Hotel in the heart of Knightsbridge. Relatively recently refurbished this is probably the most contemporary of the Maybourne group. Claridges and The Connaught being just as beautiful but with a different charm. I think it is the team on hand in the Collins Room that make it such an extreme pleasure to dine there. There is an understated and impeccable level of attention so that you are not too disturbed or irritated and yet your every need is taken care of without even having to ask. It is seamless.
Breakfast itself was exceptional with an amazing selection of home baked croissant and other breakfast treats such as pancakes and waffles all carefully prepared from scratch. What a great way to start the day with a glass of Bucks Fizz and such treats. The location of The Berkeley lends itself to being an excellent meeting place and if you are too late for breakfast or lunch there is also The Blue Bar for Cocktails and drinks, again beautifully refurbished combining contemporary features with some older detailing of the hotel. I have often met friends for drinks here and it has a lovely atmosphere. The hotel is in the process of refurbishing the guest bedrooms and the latest additons are a series of Pavilion Suites each with beautiful garden terraces overlooking London. I have decided that just because we live in London it does not mean we cannot have a treat away in such a stunning London establishment! I recommend a visit next time you are visiting London.
